This afternoon, I learned that a very dear friend, mentor and colleague, PA MagLochlainn has ‘gone home’.
A few weeks ago I learned that he was in hospital and was very unwell, while we were celebrating 30 years of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Northern Ireland. Last week, the Pink Triangle Commemoration at Belfast City Hall was organised for the first year not by him. He was due to come, but this was not to be.
And now, today, we are in mourning. He was many things to many people. His life touched all around him.
Upon hearing the news today, I had the sad task of ringin Jeffrey Dudgeon, my husband, and Gerry Lynch to let them know. I am sitting in Bedford and am unlikely to make it home in time for PA’s funeral, but the details for that are still to emerge.
Some memories that I have wandered across my thoughts in the hour since I was told include
His warm welcome both at home and outside
His love of knowledge
His wonderful sense of humour
Later on, I may be able to post something more complete, but for now, I just want to be quiet and remember him and all that he has done for so many people. We all will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family circle and his many friends across many circles of life.
